Kamil Khan
Chairman and Chief Corporate Development Officer, Softroute
Kamil Khan was born in Trinidad, West Indies. He arrived in Montreal, Canada in 1963 to pursue his undergraduate studies at McGill University and Computer Science at ECPI. Mr. Khan joined Bell Canada in 1967. He has served in all systems and communications disciplines for the Company, rising from the technical ranks to Vice- President & C.I.O. in 1985. During this latter period he led the systems activities of Bell as the company entered full competition, restructured its operations, achieved rapid growth and reengineered its systems.
In February 1993, Mr. Khan led the deregulation and unit spin off and was appointed President and C.E.O. of Bell Sygma Inc., a $500 million dollar company with 2500 people, involved in the end-to-end information systems business. He served as the Chairman of Bell Sygma Systems Management and Bell Sygma Telecom Solutions, its two subsidiaries. During this period, he led several large outsourcing projects, consolidated internal divisions, created a number of partnerships including equity investments in some, and globalized the enterprise, establishing subsidiaries in Europe, the Far East, US and Latin America. In four years the company grew its revenues to $850M and over 5000 employees. In March 1997, Mr. Khan retired from Bell after 30 years of service.
He served on several Boards and provided advisory services on strategy, diversification, restructuring and launch to a number of organizations. In the fall of 2000 he created a joint venture, Ascendo Partners, to provide advisory services, corporate finance and operational management to early stage companies.
Since January 2005 he has served as Chairman and Chief Corporate Development Officer of Softroute Corporation, a fast moving service provider of VoIP technology.
